From the release: Peak hour. The smell of coffee is rubbed into a city that is back lit by bus shelter ads. With the daily paper digested and tomorrow's to–do list compiled, thoughts turn to dinner. You check your watch, reach into your bag for a book and look up at the billboard out of boredom, but it's not the news ticker you were expecting, with novelty stories about dogs smoking pot, it's ... fiction.
Microfiction. Look up and see the text in lights.
Voiceworks magazine and Express Media are proud to present very short narratives, fiction, faction, comments, text graphics and words on big LCD screens in public places usually bombarded by advertising. Microfiction infuses the city with imagination and inspires passers–by. We're not selling anything to people rushing through the city. Nothing except creative breathing space, that is, if they think to look up.
Taking fiction off the page and out of smoky spoken-word venues, young Australian writers will reclaim the space on LCD billboards like the corner of Bourke Street and Swanston Street and various strategic locations around the city. The intention is to encourage young writers to experiment with writing stories in less than 25 words, and to expose them to a broad public audience.
